Questions people ask

Common Questions

How does Substox decide which sector a company belongs to?

By its primary business, using the sector classification from its exchange listing. Large companies often straddle several sectors; Substox files each one under where the bulk of its revenue comes from.

How many sectors are covered?

11, including technology, healthcare, energy, financial services, consumer goods, industrials, real estate, and media and entertainment.

Why do the counts differ from other sites?

Different sources use different sector definitions and different listing universes. Substox counts only companies in its own database, and the number on each page is generated from that database rather than typed in by hand.
